If this year the "Year of the Pros" at the World Series of Poker, it was last year the "Year of the side bets." Not only Erick Lindgren, the famous golf bet in which he won four times less than 100 beaten, without Caddy in the brooding heat of Las Vegas, and many of the other pros are showing great interest in these bets away from the poker table.
Of course this year was also not free from the side bets, and so we can make our Top 5 bets before:
Mike Matusow's Weightloss bet
Last year Ted Forrest bet that Mike would not do it in a year 60 pounds of weight – that is of 241 to 181 pounds. On 3 June 2008 published a lean, quiet and thinner Matusow to weigh. He had 179 pounds, even two less than the target weight.
Mikey trained every day, ran 8 miles a day and at the end of the diet he drank diet drinks with Cayenne pepper and maple syrup. Mike has $ 100000 of Forrest won and vowed never again to lose its shape. The weight loss, he seems well done, he has but a bracelet and has won the Main Event in the money ranks.
Greenstein, guitar hero
All wonder what a professional poker player in his middle age, free time, with all the money and nothing to do? Perhaps the most unlikely bet in this year – and also the most expensive – made again Phily Ivey.
Barry Greenstein $ 500,000 recently by Ivey won – not at the poker table, or golf, or at the pool table …. but on Guitar Hero. He has published recently in a forum:
"I have recently completed a long-term bet won $ 500,000 – Phil Ivey did not believe that I create it five stars on Dragonforce's' Through The Fire And The Flames' on expert level to get. Today ended the bet, when I reached 567,000 points. There were still other people involved but Phil had the major share. I take any kind of bet for Guitar Hero III.
Daniel Negreanu's bracelet bet
Eli Elezra Like last year, Daniel Negreanu was sure this year to win a bracelet, so he bet ummehr than the prize money to maintain. Daniel bet with the legend in the game Phil Ivey that everyone wins a bracelet from the other receives $ 200,000. Negreanu won the $ 2k Limit Hold'em event and $ 200000 and could be Phil Ivey or lay out $ 200,000.
Phil Ivey's bracelet bet
For every winner, there is also a loser – but the word we use is not for Phil Ivey. The feared player of all time this year had a terrible year at the WSOP – supposedly he has more than $ 2 million in addition to these bets lost. He had already Negreanu for winning his bracelet and $ 500,000 paid to Eli Elezra, the last year more than $ 750,000 by addition bets won.
Phil Laak Incognito
We do not know exactly which category that falls: he has a bet won or lost? In any event, surely the words "I bet" led to this appearance. The usually camera-shy not Phil Laak missed the opportunity of a day of Main Events in the limelight to stand. Many wondered "Where's Phil?" At the same time appeared a player at the table 33 in the Amazon Room, and all wondered who the old man on Phils seat.
It turned out it was Laak, who – for whatever reason – for a latex mask and wig and the best of his trousers and Grßvaters decided the whole evening in the elevator had played. The commonly raised talking like Laak, was suddenly quiet, until he ausschied. Whether he won or what the bet was, we do not know, but it was certainly the craziest moment in the WSOP this year.

Now, the former policeman at the Vienna "Concord Card Casino" busy. In what position? This was part of the company has not yet been published.
After his conviction and suspension is the former national police commander Roland Horngacher Employees of the "Concord Card Casino". Who is reminded of the scandals in the Horngacher was involved, which will, inter alia, the "Sauna Affair" will inevitably come back. Because Horngacher had allegedly targeted allegations against the former head of Vienna's criminal police, Ernst Geiger, brought to the public. Ernst Geiger was under suspicion of a raid in the "golden time" to have announced in advance and although the operator due to prostitution and pimping were observed. The case drew wide circles, there were convictions with subsequent repeal of the Supreme Court. Horngacher was ultimately to cause 15 months in prison – a verdict which cost him the job.

In return, it is internal information exchange with the former BAWAG boss Elsner gave. Also in the cocaine case of Austro-pop singer Reinhard Fendrich Horngacher be confidential police records to media representatives have passed. And also close contacts with the red light milieu Horngacher should have had.
After all the scandals and headlines Roland Horngacher was inevitably suspended his career with the police. Now he is likely a new field of activity is found, because according to recent media reports in the weekly magazine "News" and the APA (Austrian Press Agency) in Vienna should Horngacher "Concord Card Casino" busy. A spokeswoman for the company also aims to "News" have been confirmed: "It is true that Mr Horngacher to one of our employees."
In what area he works, which, however, was not mentioned. Conjecture to follow it in the security field. An obvious assumption finally by Mr. Horngacher compartment. Nevertheless, there is a piquant detail on the edge: The "golden time" is right next door, in the same building as the "Concord Card Casino". But who knows, maybe there is really just coincidences in life …

And every day greets the groundhog … |
Reporting on poker bots is similar to an infinite loop that periodically returns. Scaremongering, trivialisation, technological progress and solving problems for all of the poker players.
On Sunday, the Sunday Times reported on poker bots – once again reporting on a technical tool, the poker player allegedly worse deterioration and its ruin will bring. Again and again would the poker bots online sellers are detected, the platforms would be downright be hit. At bargain prices could be a poker bot everyone on the Internet to buy and thus earn much money.
There were reports of which poker players from poker bots to the £ 50,000, – deserve. Well, that is the poker bots are so because they are apparently not just a lucrative source of revenue, but a good justification when something goes well. All losses and everything can be safely failure may have been a computer opponent will be pushed.
The Sunday Times to write that they have the Forum "Carschat" Contact a poker bot users have made. The uninhibitedly brags: "I use software that plays for me, in six different poker rooms and scratch since I pretty much gravel together . Whether or evil genius? Well, the software loses sometimes, but as soon as it is, is none I know. The really works and it is very entertaining to watch. "
Reports on the poker bots are constantly and always and everywhere – the question is how seriously to take the small poker programs?
On 23 And 24 July 2007 were for the "Artificial Intelligence Conference in Vancouver on the first presentation of" Polaris "- the ultimate poker computer. Scientists at the University of Alberta, the program had developed to the field of artificial intelligence to set new standards. At that time, Phil "The Unabomber" Laak and Ali Eslami as opponents demanded. They won in their respective heads-up against Polaris, but barely.
Then, the rematch: In the context of the WSOP did the recent duel "man against machine" with "Polaris II" – an evolution of its predecessor. This should win the computer. For many of the evidence that poker bots as a threat to online poker would be. The end of online poker has been predicted …
But the fact is that the skills of "Polaris" in any way with those of the poker bots are comparable. The head of the project at the University of Alberta, Dr. Billings said then: "The bot programs are in No Limit or multi-player tables no strong opponents. It would be ridiculous success of the Polaris II with a disaster for online poker equate. " Poker Bots purely mathematically calculate the odds – the probability of winning their own cards through combination. In heads-up is still relatively easier to implement than in a crowded table of 9-10 players, respectively. This would not Polaris, a bot program can keep up.
Meanwhile, back almost a year has elapsed, but the rumors of poker bots remain stubbornly. Of course, this problem should not be denied, but constantly negative reporting to push anyone brings something.
At least the online community can no longer aufscheuchen as quickly as last year, knows the technical limitations, because the comments on the Times article are more likely to behave: "What happens when everyone plays with bots?" Or "The only source of the Sunday Times article mentions, it was this forum post. And that was a "spam" post with nothing other than click-rates intended. Such a software is just as unpopular as trustworthy. "
Moreover, the odds for anyone who is not only on his feelings for them, might get an odd calculator download, they would (at least in purely mathematical terms) the same opportunities.

WSOP events offer many opportunities, different experiences |
With a WSOP tournament play, as on a public golf course to play golf. If you are on a public golf course to play, then a quiet Dinstagsmorgenrunde the kind of peaceful and "pure" experience for the golf game was invented, no queue, no waiting and no reason to hurry.
But when the "hooligan Weekend" on Saturday and Sunday on the golf course – and watching! Six hours rounds flying golf balls from players who try to beat an ace. An unusual, yet peaceful experience that normally 10:10 am tee-time on Saturday morning accompanied.
Once I am in the Amazon Room in Rio in the last few days have a little bit around, it fell on me, it still is a spark of "pure and true" WSOP experience from the good old times, to erhaschen. 182 players participated yesterday in the $ 5000 Seven Card Stud event in part, the players were only 81 more than in 2000, when David Chiu won, and the final table from the "who's who" of the professional poker tournament consisted (Scotty Nguyen, Jack McClelland, Mel Judah, "Skyhawk" Flaton and Larry Flint). Of course, this event shows us just a little of the "true" WSOP experience. A number of lines k players who know themselves and what is more important – to know how each of the other participants playing poker.
The $ 1,500 No-Limit event on Tuesday presented to us on the other hand, very contrary. The "Weekend Rabauke" from the online poker-G is ready to work on your game to wait. 2126 participants attended this event and as slowly the occupation of the final table was established, the composition table ehr a "Who?" as a "Who's Who". With the exception of Paddy Parkinson and poker veteran Billy Duarte, I was no player known .. n There was in the tournament, some very good online player, but they were mostly just below your online nickname and not known by the name of the card stands.
Participants in this field find their way, had something of the situation in golf, if you try the golf balls herumschwirrenden the "Weekend Rabauke" elsewhere. But make no mistake – I was one of the 2126 participants who tried their hand at this day a piece of the cake off and I will again next Tuesday in a similar tournament to participate ($ 1,500 No Limit Hold'em). When I last night about the "pure, true WSOP experience nachgeacht had conjured up the idea alone smile to my lips.
Ed note: Conjure up a smile on their faces, you will win a really big pot at Doyles Room

WSOP Update. Day 4 Chip Counts and Eliminations |
Previously, it was such that the 3 days as the "Moving Day" was designated as a day to what happens at the first preliminary evidence. It is the day on which some players succeed in your chip stack on the way into the finals to prepare, while others lose everything and it is only a matter of time when you excrete.
This year, with the largest number of participants of all time, and a "multiple" Day 2, it seems that the "Moving Day" on the 4th day has shifted. It came on Day 4, the movement in some participants. At the end of Day 4 we had some players with very large chip stacks (such as chip leader Jamie Gold with 3.7 million chips) and other players with "mini" chip stacks, such as David Woo of with 44.000 chips (3 big blind) in the fifth match must start.
Day 4 was the day for some of the "I shrink my chip stack." Daniel Negreanu made it, anyway its small chip stack, more and more to decimate and had finally eliminated in the early afternoon. There was a thunderous applause for Jo Hachem, who fought hard and gave everything in order once again to the coveted bracelet win. Unfortunately he failed to AA with an opponent with his JJ was set. The title defenders had the tournament ranked 238 and was able to leave a prize in the amount of 42,000 $ to take home.
Some other well-known players, who today had to be eliminated were: Ted Forrest, Cyndy Violette, Susie Isaacs, Cece Reyes, Tom McEvoy, Hoyt Corkin, Surinder Sunar, poker legend Hans' Tuna 'Lund, Kathy Liebert, Aaron' Gamble AB 'Bartley and David Chiu – to this day with a placement in the top ten chip counts began, but today just had no luck.
But there are also many excellent players in the remaining field of participants remained. Online poker legend Prahlad Friedman is located in the chip count top ten, while Jeff Lisandro, and the well known online player Eric "Rizen" Lynch in the Top 20 to find to find. Annie Duke has made the move into the Top 20 just misses her chip stack, however, with just under 1 million chips quite handsome.
Although not officially announced, the remaining players merely establish that it is up to the decision of this event, an additional day off will take place. Actually it was planned that the 4th Days with 600 players and that will start after completion of the day or about 300 players would remain. On day 5 should start with 300 players and at the end of the day was with 150 remaining players is expected. The participants were, however, such a brisk pace that we are now on day 5, the planned quantity of the remaining players who have less, day 4 although not yet quite come to an end. At the moment, the remaining player number 135 player. We assume that the number of remaining players until the end of the fourth day, 60 players will be. which would lead to an additional day of rest is allowed. We would also not be surprised if only 27 players at the conclusion of the 4th day would remain, which could result in two "'s Day Off" would occur. It does not seem as if the moment enough "action" at the gaming tables to the number of remaining players at 27 to lower, but if you look at the number of players now had to leave the tournament, was more than surprising and one can never know what will happen today.
Below you will find a complete list of official chip counts and a list of players who on Day 4 had to be eliminated (including the prizes for each placement). We wish all the remaining players in the tournament the best of luck for the next Matchday.
